Blue Lion baseball defeats Hurricane, 9-1

The Washington Blue Lions were looking to quickly bounce back from their first loss of the season, that on Friday night, 8-3 to Oakwood, when they welcomed former South Central Ohio League opponent the Wilmington Hurricane from neighboring Clinton County Saturday, April 6.

Washington received a stand-out pitching performance from freshman Aden Osborne and sophomore Bryson Heath for a solid 9-1 victory.

Osborne started and got the win with six innings of one-hit ball and Heath pitched one scoreless frame.

Meanwhile, after coming up with four hits against Oakwood, the Blue Lions had eight hits from six different players off the Hurricane.

“It was a nice bounce back win today,” Washington head coach Brian Yeazel said. “Aden was solid on the mound again for us.”

Aden Osborne started and pitched six innings. He kept Wilmington searching for more success as he allowed one hit, one earned run with four strikeouts and four walks.

Bryson Heath pitched one scoreless inning in a non-save situation. He walked one Wilmington batter and retired the other three he faced.

Logan Phillips started and suffered the loss for the Hurricane.

He pitched 4.2 innings with seven hits and eight runs (three earned) while issuing five walks and striking out six Blue Lion batters.

Gavynn Walls pitched 1.1 innings for Wilmington with one hit and one earned run allowed. Both pitchers hit one batter.

Bryson Platt connected on the only hit for Wilmington, a double.

Alex Massie drew a pair of walks, while Joshua Tolliver, Brady Tolliver and Austin Oglesby each accepted one free pass.

The game was scoreless until Washington put five on the board in the bottom of the third.

Wilmington scored what proved to be its only run of the game in the top of the fifth.

Washington had another nice inning in the fifth, adding three to their total.

The Blue Lions put a single run up in the sixth.

Washington (7-1) has an off day Monday (the day of the solar eclipse) and will return to Frontier Athletic Conference play Tuesday at 5 p.m. at home against Hillsboro.

Washington will then visit Hillsboro on Wednesday and host Fairfield Union on Thursday before traveling to Springfield Northeastern on Saturday, April 13.

Wilmington is now 1-3 and plays at Goshen Wednesday, April 10.
