MT baseball holds off Wilmington, 5-4

The Miami Trace Panthers hosted the Wilmington Hurricane for a non-conference varsity baseball game Saturday, April 2.

The Panthers withstood a late rally by Wilmington to earn a 5-4 victory.

The win lifts the Panthers to 4-0 on the season.

Cole Little started the game on the mound for the Panthers and pitched five innings for the win.

He allowed four hits and two earned runs with two walks and six strikeouts.

Gaige Stuckey pitched two innings with one hit, two runs (none earned), one walk and three strikeouts.

Phillips started for Wilmington and pitched 2.2 innings with two hits, three runs (two earned), three walks and three strikeouts.

S. Nichols worked in relief and took the loss for the Hurricane. He pitched 3.1 innings with three hits and two runs (one earned). He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Miami Trace scored two runs in the bottom of the second and Wilmington tied the game in the top of the third.

The Panthers regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the third.

Miami Trace scored two in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.

Wilmington rallied with two runs in the top of the seventh.

Brady Armstrong led the Panthers with two hits.

Conner Bucher hit a double and scored two runs.

Wes may had one hit and scored one run.

Stuckey had one hit and Garrett Zimmerman walked twice and scored twice for the Panthers.

Hibbs had two hits, including a double and scored two runs for Wilmington.

Tackett had two hits and drove in one run. Massie had one hit and scored twice for the Hurricane.

Miami Trace is scheduled to play at Fairfield (Leesburg) Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
