The Washington Court House City Schools (WCHCS) Board of Education held its monthly meeting on Monday evening and approved personnel items, rental/facility use requests and discussed policies for review.
WCHCS Board of Education Vice President Craig Copas opened the meeting at the district office. WCHCS Superintendent Tom Bailey then recommended the approval of several personnel-related items. These items included one non-acceptance of contract for a substitute teacher, one resignation for the dance team director and nine employment recommendations for various positions. Additionally, the superintendent recommended one athletic supplemental contract resignation, eight supplemental contract employments for various coaching positions and one change of status for an assistant boys track coach to become the head boys track coach.
Also recommended for approval by the superintendent were five rental and facility use requests. These included Spiketown Volleyball Club using the Washington High School gym for practices, Ohio Crush Basketball Program using multiple gyms for practices, TC Elite Basketball using the Belle Aire and Washington Middle School gym for practice, and Caleb McKinney, Special Olympics coordinator, requesting use of the Washington High School gym for their annual fundraiser game coming in March.
Bailey additionally recommended several instructional items for approval during the meeting. Included in these items were the calendar for the 2020-21 school year including the first day as Aug. 12 and the last day as May 20, 2021 and a Washington High School course description handbook for 2020-21.
WCHCS Treasurer Becky Mullins also recommended the acceptance of several thousands of dollars in donations. These included donations to the baseball camp, bowling club, wrestling camp, auditorium restoration, the Big Blue Bus and the Joseph E. White Scholarship.
Finally, the board discussed a series of policies for review which will see a recommendation at the next meeting. These policies include revisions to conflict of interest, several FMLA leave policies, recording of district meetings involving students and/or parents, use of district premises and district support organizations. Several new policies will also be recommended at the next meeting, including single gender classes and activities and several new conflict of interest policies. A policy on emergency situations at schools will also be recommended to be replaced.
