Although the students are off for the entire week for fall break, the staff of Washington Court House City Schools spent the beginning of the week developing professionally.
WCHCS learned about the Ohio Revised Code and pertinent information presented by Susan Willeke of the Ohio Ethics Commission, as well as an invigorating conversation on hope with Jamie Meade from Battelle for Kids.
The district also kicked off the first-ever LIONS IGNITE, a time for WCHCS staff to present on a topic on their passion, knowledge and practice. Mark Bihl discussed the “Purpose over Goal” mindset of Blue Lion athletics, and Briana Richardson and Nicole Friend showed their sparkling Cheap STEM projects.
Jared Joseph led the group in song as he explained that everybody has the gift of singing, as well as how important it is to instill hope in those still learning their way.
Derrick Lyons introduced the district to the SOLE method that’s being used in Washington Middle School, and Laura McNamara gave an informative discussion on student services. Ben Streitenberger challenged his colleagues to change one small habit for the better, and Brooke Mohr engaged the group in the importance of representation of all of our students.
Mike Skaggs gave an informative safety update, and Becky Junewick acted as the keynote speaker with a thought-provoking lesson in trauma-informed care.
“I am incredibly proud of Washington Court House City Schools today,” WCHCS Superintendent Tom Bailey said. “Thank you to all of our staff who engaged in Lions Ignite 1.0, inspiring the Blue Lion family by sharing passion, knowledge and practice to help us grow.”
Washington Court House City Schools will resume classes on Monday.
