Fayette County will celebrate the independence of the United States with several firework displays, a parade and other activities next week.

The first celebration will be Fire In The Sky on Monday, July 3 with the show starting at 10 p.m. on the Fayette County Fairgrounds. The music for this year is a tribute to Ohioan, John Glenn, with the opening song being the theme song from the movie, “The Right Stuff.”

According to Dan Fowler, president of Fire In The Sky, “The music and the fireworks display is intended to reflect our way of life, to rejoice in our freedoms, to salute our veterans, and to celebrate our independence as Americans.”

There will be entertainment, games and food on the fairgrounds prior to the fireworks display sponsored by WVNU Radio.

The second celebration will be the Jeffersonville Fireworks and Block Party on Tuesday, July 4.

According to Tracey Rankin Coe, co-chairman of the Jeffersonville Festival Association, the fireworks are being sponsored by the Jeffersonville Lions Club and will go off at dusk from the Jeffersonville Park.

The block party will be held from 5-11 p.m. with a dunk tank, some kids games and D.J. Larry Detty playing music. The event will be held in the lot at Detty’s Market. Additionally, a parade will step off at 7 p.m.

“Come out for food, fun and games,” Coe said. “And come out to enjoy the fireworks.”

Additionally, Jeffersonville Mayor Bob Kinzer said a correction needed to be made concerning the community pool and the block party. The pool will be open during the community’s block party, but will not be open for free and food will not be served for free during the event.

The free pool party and cookout mentioned by Jeffersonville Village Council member Rob Kinzer in a recent Record-Herald article will be held later this year.
