When I started my college journey all I knew was that I wanted to help others and that I had an interest in the health field. So, I enrolled in nursing school thinking that was my only option, I did not know much about the different career paths in the healthcare field. I remember taking a public health course for nursing and deciding that’s what I wanted to pursue — public health!

There is a month left in this year’s Winter Reading Challenge on Beanstack! Beanstack is an online program that allows readers to participate in challenges, track their reading, complete activities and earn digital badges. Children, teens, and adults can all participate in the Winter Reading Challenge and earn badges by reading and completing activities. So far, a total of 265 books have been read during the challenge! All those registered for the challenge are eligible to win prizes in drawings at the ends of January and February. Welcome, 2023! Are you ready to get started with ebooks and digital audiobooks? Join us for a small group session on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 11 a.m. We will dive into the basics of using Libby, the Ohio Digital Library free reading app! Please bring your preferred device. Then, on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m., follow-up with another session, this time featuring Hoopla, the library’s free, on-demand ebook, digital audiobook, and video streaming app! If you are not using Libby or Hoopla, you are missing out!

As 2022 draws to a close, many readers think back on the books they have read during the past year. Many keep track in notebooks or journals, or use sites and apps like Goodreads to record titles and make notes. For the most dedicated bibliophiles, reading challenges are a popular substitute for New Year’s Resolutions. Setting goals based on quantity or genre keep booklovers motivated throughout the year. It is never too late, or too early!

The Carnegie Public Library staff wishes all readers and library patrons a very happy holiday season and bright new year. The library will be closed Friday, Dec. 23 and will remain closed through Monday, Dec. 26 in celebration of the Christmas holiday. The building will reopen Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 10 a.m. Additionally, the library will be closed Monday, Jan. 3 in celebration of New Year’s Day. As always, Hoopla and the Ohio Digital Library are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Log in with your library card to stream or download millions of books, movies, and series for adults, teens, and children.
