What’s happening at Carnegie Library?

Coming up: The libraries in Washington Court House and Jeffersonville will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day. Both locations will reopen Tuesday, May 30 at 10 a.m.

Calling all residents of Fayette County! This summer, the library challenges you to read more than your “’feed.” It is all too easy to become absorbed into scrolling marathons on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The internet is a great resource and a terrific tool, but it pales in comparison to the richness of reading an inspirational life story, magical fairy tale, or helpful how-to. Books can transport, enrich, challenge, and soothe you in ways you may have forgotten, or perhaps never knew. Make Carnegie Public Library and Jeffersonville Library a destination this summer!

The library’s first big Summer Reading Program event takes place Tuesday, June 6 with a “Totally Gross Magic Show,” first at the library in Jeffersonville at 11 a.m. and then in Washington Court House at the Cherry Hill Primary cafeteria at 2 p.m. If you like slimy green stuff, foot fungus, and fun facts, you will love this “Totally Gross Magic Show!”

Then, Monday, June 12 at 11 a.m., our friend “Ronald McDonald” will visit to talk magic, books, and more! These events are free and open to all ages. June and July are packed with events and Fayette Field Trips. Grab, download, or browse our full newsletter, and mark your calendars for free, fun, quality summer happenings!

The Carnegie Youth Garden Club will meet at the library in Washington Court House on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. all summer long to tend our garden. Drop-in and get your hands dirty! Open to all students in grades 1-8.

In Washington Court House: Join us for summer storytime! Preschool Storytime, on Tuesday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m., is for children ages 3 – 5 years old. Then, each Tuesday at 11:15 a.m., the library hosts “Books & Babies.” “Books & Babies” is a 15-minute session specifically created for our youngest patrons to look at board books, do finger plays, bounce on laps and explore. This early literacy time will introduce your baby to the library and the world of books! Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. is Books & Blocks, for children 1 – 3 years old. Siblings are welcome at either session.

In Jeffersonville: Tuesdays at 11 a.m., come listen to stories, play instruments, create crafts, and socialize with other little friends at Toddler Time. Each week features a new theme. May 30 the theme is “Berries!”

The “Knitters & Crocheter’s Drop-In” will take place Wednesday, May 31 at 3 p.m. to knit caps for preemies and those with cancer. Socialize and contribute to a good cause! Coming up: June 5, stop by the Jeffersonville Library to “make-and-take” a card for Father’s Day!
