The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Washington Court House Branch held its spring banquet on May 12 at the Sugar Creek Baptist Christian Center.
Prior to enjoying a delicious meal prepared and served by Rachel’s House Catering, the members in attendance awarded scholarships to two outstanding high school seniors, Alyvia Kreps, Washington High School, who is going to the University of Cincinnati to major in biology, and Julia Barrett, Miami Trace High School, who will be entering Wright State University in the nursing program.
Another talented young woman, Maria Pickerill, provided entertainment. She sang, “Shy” from “Once Upon a Mattress,” “God Help the Outcast,” from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Out-going officers, Laura Voorhis, recording secretary, and Marilee Peterson, membership vice-president, were thanked for the time and expertise they have given to AAUW.
The new recording secretary and membership vice-president for 2016-2018 are Brenda Riley and Laura Voorhis, respectively. The AAUW Washington Court House Branch was organized in 1956 to advance the equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.
