What’s happening at Carnegie Library?

There is nothing like connecting with someone that has read your favorite book! Stranger or friend, if you have read and loved the same story, you now have a shared journey.

In the last few weeks, I have had many opportunities to discuss one of my favorites, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This is in part due to the publication of Lee’s first manuscript titled, Go Set a Watchman, which has elicited reactions both positive and negative. Almost everyone, however, is curious about this reclusive author’s “other” book because of the popularity, critical acclaim, and timelessness of To Kill a Mockingbird. On Friday, July 31, at 4 p.m., the Library Book Club will meet to discuss To Kill a Mockingbird. Whether you are reading it for the first time or the fifth time, we hope that you will join us. All ages are welcome!

The Annual Book Sale with AAUW is fast approaching! The library welcomes donations for this sale but prefers, because of space limitations, that items be delivered as close to the sale as possible. Proceeds from the sale help fund scholarships offered by AAUW and will become part of the library’s general fund to be used for building maintenance, collection development, and technology.

This year’s sale will begin with a preview on Wednesday, July 29 at 3 p.m. Entrance for the preview sale is $2. The sale continues during normal library hours on Thursday, July 30, and Friday, July 31, and ends on Saturday, Aug. 1, with the dollar-a-bag sale from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday will also feature My Sister’s House of Fayette County selling pop, hot dogs, and other goodies!

In both Washington Court House and Jeffersonville, there is still much fun to be had with great programs and summer reading prizes! Pick up a newsletter for details and a full schedule of summer events! Many programs require registration and may have age limits.

Information about all of our programs can be found on the library’s website www.cplwcho.org, or by calling the Washington Court House Library at 740-335-2540 or the Jeffersonville Library at 740-426-9292. Check us out on Facebook!
