Late rally lifts Xenia over MT baseball in season opener

XENIA — The Miami Trace Panthers varsity baseball team began the 2024 season Monday, March 25 with a game against the Xenia High School Buccaneers.

The Panthers had a fine start to this game but Xenia rallied for two runs in the sixth and three in the bottom of the seventh to post a 7-6 victory.

Miami Trace had 10 hits in the game, somewhat negated by seven errors. Six of Xenia’s seven runs were unearned.

Brady Armstrong started on the mound for the Panthers and pitched five innings. He allowed three hits and four unearned runs. He walked four and struck out eight.

Gaige Stuckey came on in relief and took the loss for Miami Trace. He pitched 1.1 innings with no hits, three runs (one earned), five walks and one strikeout.

For Xenia, T. Wassom started and pitched four innings. He allowed six hits and five runs (one earned) with four walks and three strikeouts.

S. Kleman got the win in relief, going three innings with four hits, one run (earned), one walk and one strikeout.

The Panthers began the game scoring four runs in the top of the first.

Xenia put one run on the board in the second and another run came across in the third.

Miami Trace scored one in the fourth and Xenia scored two in the sixth with the Panthers holding a 5-4 lead.

Miami Trace scored one in the sixth, but Xenia scored three in the bottom of the seventh.

Stuckey walked twice and scored twice for the Panthers.

Brody McBee went 2 for 3 with one walk and two runs scored; Armstrong went 3 for 4 with one run and four RBI; Cooper Enochs went 2 for 4; Jameson Hyer was 1 for 4 and scored one run; Konnor May was 1 for 3 with a double and drove in two runs and Evan Colegrove was 1 for 4.

For Xenia, D. Smith was 1 for 3 with one run scored and one RBI; A. Newell went 1 for 2 with one run scored and two walks and E. Wells went 1 for 3, scoring one run and drawing one walk.

E. Harbinson scored one run and drove in one; M. Kingsolver walked and scored one run; E. Lane scored one run and B. Dudley drove in one.

Miami Trace is at Chillicothe’s VA Stadium for a game against Circleville Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

The Panthers are at Columbus Briggs Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
