Lady Lion softball falls to Zane Trace, 4-1

On a beautiful Monday afternoon, March 25, the Washington Lady Lions varsity softball team hosted the Zane Trace Pioneers for a non-league game.

Zane Trace scored two runs in the top of the first and went on to post a 4-1 victory.

Lilly Shaw pitched for Washington and went the full seven innings. Shaw allowed five hits and four runs (all earned). She walked one and struck out 11.

Wipert started for Zane Trace and got the win. She pitched seven innings with one hit, one earned run, one walk and she struck out 16.

Boggess-Pierce had two hits and scored two runs for Zane Trace. She also had one stolen base.

Guffey had two hits (a double and a triple), drove in two and scored two runs.

Wipert hit a double and knocked in two runs.

Shaw had one hit and scored Washington’s one run. That score came in the fifth inning.

Jordan Mead drew a walk for Washington.

Zane Trace added single runs in the third and sixth innings.

Both teams were error-free defensively.

The Lady Lions, now 1-2 on the season, are scheduled to play at Logan Elm Tuesday and at Vinton County Wednesday.

Washington will host Madison Plains Thursday. The regular weekday game time is 5 p.m.
