MTHS gets candid in relatable podcast

Miami Trace is going above and beyond to communicate with their students and locals through their innovative and relatable podcast called “The Panther Cast.”

“The Panther Cast” is the official podcast of Miami Trace Local School District. With each episode, the podcast provides an inside look, relevant information, resources, and celebrations related to the Miami Trace Local School District. “The Panther Cast” covers all district happenings for listeners to enjoy at their leisure.

Many of the episodes recorded feature students who are able to discuss the inside life of being a high schooler at Miami Trace. Student services and district operations coordinator, Kylie Lanman, made it evident how much MTHS cares for its students, and why it is so critical to have them involved with the podcast.

Lanman said, “The students are the reason we are all here doing what we do.”

Members of the Miami Trace Technology and Student Services Departments first met up in the winter of 2021 to discuss their current forms of communication to the public. It was important to the MTHS staff that the families of all their students were included in all of the activities happening inside the school.

Lanman explained how the staff all came together to ask the important questions like, “What are we missing?” and “How else can we share the good news of what’s happening at Miami Trace?”

A podcast seemed to be the perfect answer, and it became a major door opener for the school.

The pilot episode of “The Panther Cast” aired on March 22, 2022, covering the topic of last year’s high school musical production, “The Addams Family.” Since then there have been 12 published episodes covering a variety of topics such as FFA, marching band, transportation, Quiz Bowl, and technology. The school strives to put out an episode per month to keep everyone caught up on the latest MTHS information.

The most recent episode airing on March 22 takes listeners behind the scenes with cast and crew members of this weekend’s high school musical, “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.” The episode includes the host, Lanman, along with featured cast and crew from the musical. Listeners will hear all about the cast and crew’s journey backstage, and will also get exclusive coverage on the making of the play.

“The Panther Cast” can be accessed through any podcasting platform or on the Miami Trace School District Home Page at Miami Trace also invites the public to request topics they would like to hear by sending their ideas to [email protected].
