Restaurant Inspections

Fayette County Public Health conducted the following restaurant and food inspections, according to reports filed with the department.

APRIL 23

Ranchers Roast Beef, 501 S. Elm Street. Standard inspection. Violations/comments: Food containers were found stored stacked while wet, after cleaning and sanitizing equipment and utensils must be air dried. Stained ceiling tiles were found in the storage room and main kitchen area, the facility must be maintained in a state of good repair. Knowledge and responsibility, the person in charge displayed good knowledge of critical control point questionnaire. The employee designated to wash the food contact equipment and utensils was unable to properly set up the three compartment sink for washing, rinsing and sanitizing, the sanitizer was high, the person in charge must ensure that employees are properly cleaning and sanitizing equipment and utensils, the employee was instructed how to properly wash and sanitize. It was recommended management have the walk-in cooler inspected, food temperatures were at 41-42 degrees on both days, also management was told to check the temperatures more frequently to ensure that the temperature does not rise any further.

Dollar General #2017, 1821 Columbus Ave. Standard inspection. Violations/comments: Dented cans were found on the sales floor shelves, food packages must remain in good condition to protect the food from contaminants. Broken floor tiles found in restroom, also the paper product shelves located in back of store were found rusty, non-food contact surfaces must be easily cleanable. The bottom of the drink coolers on inside were found with an accumulation of food residue, non-food contact surfaces must be cleaned as often as necessary to prevent accumulation of soil residues, the water fountain near the restroom was also found with an accumulation of soil residue. Stained or missing ceiling tiles were found in the restroom, the facility must be maintained in a state of good repair. The floor and walls in the restroom were found with an accumulation of soil residues, also the door of the restrooms. The floor and walls of the mop room were found with an accumulation of soil residues, the ceiling tiles in this area were also found stained and damaged, again the facility must be maintained in a state of good repair and must be cleaned at a frequency necessary to keep it clean.

APRIL 22

Frisch’s WCH #19, 1830 Columbus Ave. Complaint inspections. Violations/comments: A complaint was received on April 19 regarding a sewage smell inside of the restaurant. According to management one of the toilets inside of the women’s restroom was not working properly and was the cause of the small, the manager state that maintenance was scheduled to come later this evening and that they will contact the Fayette County Public Health Department once repairs are complete, she also stated that they were able to at least get the toilet flushing now. Both toilets in the women’s and men restrooms were not working as well as the sinks. According to management Waterworks came on April 23 to inspect facility regarding the sewage smell and were unable to find any issues with the plumbing fixtures or equipment and floor drains, management also stated that they are scheduling a smoke test to make sure they did not miss anything.

APRIL 19

Flagway, Inc. #1, 1537 N. North St. Standard inspection. Violations/comments: Certifications in food safety were unavailable, the person in charge must ensure that employees are properly trained in food safety, category one facilities must have at least one person trained in level one per shift. Procedures for vomit and diarrhea clean up must be available for employees. According to the state manager, the coffee pots are washed in the mop sink, the mop sink is being used as a mop sink for hand washing, and washing food equipment, food equipment and utensil must be cleaned to sight and touch in a sink with at least three compartments for manually washing, rinsing and sanitizing. No thermometer found for walk-in cooler, cold or hot holding equipment used for perishable foods must be designed to include at least one temperature measuring device. An employee health notifications policy is unavailable, employees must be informed of their responsibilities to report any food borne illnesses to their managing staff.

Flagway, Inc. #7, 635 Dayton Ave. Standard inspection. Violations/comments: Certifications in food safety were unavailable, category one facilities must have at least one person trained in food safety, level one, per shift. An employee health notification policy is unavailable, employees must be informed of their responsibilities to report any food borne illnesses to their managing staff. Procedures for vomit and diarrhea clean up were unavailable, food service and retail operations must have written procedures regarding vomit and diarrhea.

Flagway #10, 810 Highland Ave. Standard inspection. Violations/comments: Certifications in food safety were unavailable, management stated that she is enrolled in the next course. An employee health notification policy is unavailable, employees must be informed of their responsibility to report any food borne illnesses to their managing staff. Procedures for vomit and diarrhea clean up were unavailable, retail operations must have written procedures for their employees regarding vomit and diarrhea clean up. The shelves inside of the walk-in cooler were found with an accumulation of soil residue, non-food contact surfaces must be cleaned at a frequency necessary to prevent accumulation of soil residues. No back flow preventive was found on the mop sink, a plumbing system shall be installed to prevent back flow of contaminants into the water supply system at each point of use, including a hose bibb.

Flagway #11, 1129 U.S. 22 . Standard inspection. Violations/comments: Certifications in food safety were unavailable, the person in charge must ensure that employees one properly trained in food safety, category one facilities must have at least one person trained in level one per shift. An employee health notification policy is unavailable, employees must be informed of their responsibility to report any food borne illnesses to their managing staff. Procedures for vomit and diarrhea clean up were unavailable, food service and retail operations must have written procedures regarding vomit and diarrhea clean up. No hand soap was provided in the restroom, all hand wash sinks must be provided with hand cleanser. The toilet located in the public restroom was not working properly, both of the toilets in the facility did not have lids to cover the flush devices, all equipment must be maintained in a state of good repair. The bulbs in the Coca Cola cooler are blown out and need replacing for easy visibility and cleaning.
