Jail could be condemned without levy

Dear Editor,

If the jail was to be condemned and the county had to haul inmates to other facilities, the following would be the result:

It would cost $65 per day per inmate. At a conservative 50 inmates, it would be $1,186,250.00 per year and all the money would come out of the county’s general fund. All services would be cut to the bare minimum.

We would have no jail. Deputies would be out of county and all expenses that go with hauling inmates would also cost the county. The risk of inmates in transit is a problem we don’t want to tackle either.

The payment on the 4 percent loan is less than hauling, etc.

Please vote yes for the new jail levy on May 7.

Thanks,

Jim Garland
