Coming up, both libraries will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Carnegie Public Library in Washington Court House and Jeffersonville Branch Library will close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and will remain closed Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23. The library in Washington Court House will reopen on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m., and the Jeffersonville Branch Library on Monday, Nov. 27 at 10 a.m. This time is in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday, as well as “Staff Appreciation.” We are grateful indeed for this additional time with family, friends and our favorite books!
This month’s book club selection is Skipping Christmas by John Grisham, the book that inspired the movie “Christmas with the Kranks!” We love this fun holiday read! On Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Fayette County Genealogical Society’s Peggy Lester will lead a workshop for those interested in learning more about their lineage, or pursuing membership in a lineage society. Then, on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 5:30 p.m., the community is invited to a special evening program at the library with bestselling author Margaret Peterson Haddix. She will discuss her newest books “The Summer of Broken Things” and “Children of Jubilee.” She will also give attendees a sneak peek into her 2019 books, and answer fan questions. If you have not attended before, please consider doing so. Margaret is a compelling speaker whose enthusiasm for reading and writing inspires both children and adults! Books n’ More from Wilmington will be on site to sell copies of Margaret’s books.
In Washington Court House: Welcome to storytime! Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. is Preschool Storytime! This program is for children 3 – 5 years old, while Thursdays are Books & Blocks, for children 1 – 3 years old. Each week features a new theme! Siblings are welcome at either session. Also, each Tuesday, at 11:15 a.m., the library will host “Books & Babies!” “Books & Babies” is a 15-minute session specifically created for our youngest patrons to look at board books, do finger plays, bounce on laps and explore. This early literacy time will introduce your baby to the library and the world of books! Have you heard about “Code Club?” The library is looking for coders (non-coders) ages 8-18. On Thursdays from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m., attendees will learn to make games, apps, websites and animations! “Code Club” is relaxed, so come when you can and learn at your own pace.
In Jeffersonville: As always, Tuesdays at 11 a.m., little ones are invited to listen to stories, play instruments, create crafts and socialize with other little friends at Toddler Time! Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 3 p.m., join Jeffersonville’s “Knifty Knitters” group for fun, fellowship, and knitting and crocheting for a good cause! Members make caps for newborn babies and those undergoing chemo. All are welcome!
