The National FFA Organization and National FFA Foundation has awarded more than $2.7 million in scholarships to 1,888 recipients. This was made possible thanks to the generosity of 115 sponsors.
More than 8,300 students applied online for the scholarships, with many of the applicants being considered for multiple awards.
Approximately one in every four students who applied was awarded a scholarship. The scholarships were available to students pursuing two-year or four-year degrees or vocational programs. The average recipient had a GPA of 3.76 on a 4.0 scale and was in the top 16 percent of their class.
This year marks the 33rd year for the scholarship program, which began in 1984 with 16 scholarships offered. Since then, more than $47 million has been awarded in scholarship funds through the National FFA Organization. The selection process takes into account the whole student, including FFA involvement, work experience, supervised agricultural experience, community service, leadership skills and academics. The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 649,355 student members who belong to one of 7,859 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The organization is also supported by 225,891 alumni members in 1,934 alumni chapters throughout the U.S.
This year the Miami Trace FFA Chapter had seven members receive scholarships from sponsors of the National FFA Organization.
Makayla Eggleton, the daughter of Richard and Lillian Eggleton, was awarded the scholarship from Built Ford Tough/Carroll Halliday Inc. worth $1,000. She plans on attending The Ohio State University and studying nursing-neonatal.
Nicholas Elrich, son of John and Magdalana Elrich, received a $1,000 scholarship from Chevy Trucks/GM Center. Nicholas plans to attend The Ohio State University, where he will study architecture.
Cole Karnes, son of Brian Karnes and Brian and Kelly Pettit, was awarded the $1,000 scholarship from Built Ford Tough/Carroll Halliday Inc. Cole will attend the University of Cincinnati this fall, where he will study in accounting/finance.
Chloe Lambert, daughter of Jeremy and Julie Lambert, received the scholarship from AGCO Dealer/Mayer Farm Equipment, LLC that was $1,000. Chloe is attending Urbana University, where she is studying business & marketing.
Todd Peterson, son of Bob and Lisa Peterson, was awarded the $2,000 scholarship from Rabo AgriFinance. Todd is going to The Ohio State University where he plans on studying agribusiness.
Marissa Sheets, daughter of Bryan and Nikki Sheets, received a $1,000 scholarship from Chevy Trucks/Gusweiler GM Center. She is attending Mount Caramel College to study nursing-nurse practitioner.
Clare Sollars, daughter of Jeff and Bridget Sollars, was awarded the CSX scholarship that was worth $4,000. She will attend the Ohio State University and study food engineering.
