Cherry Hill class donates to breast cancer research

Cherry Hill Primary students have been working hard all year to learn and develop skills through Lions Quest, a social and emotional learning program of Lions Clubs International Foundation.

Lions Quest promotes a positive connection to school and peers, positive behavior, character education, anti-bullying, drug, alcohol, and tobacco awareness, and leadership skills through service-learning. This spring, these skills were put into action by planning and implementing and a service-learning project, giving students the opportunity to make a difference in their school and community.

Mrs. Dye’s first grade class chose to host a bake sale to raise money to help patients who have cancer or give to a cancer research organization. Along with their parents and staff, students diligently prepared for the sale by making posters to create awareness, making announcements, and providing baked goods.

Students held the bake sale during Cherry Hill’s Celebration of Success, as well as during lunch periods during the school day. Mrs. Dye’s class had a goal of $100, and were so excited to exceed this goal by raising a grand total of $452.18, which was donated to the Stefanie Spielman Fund for breast cancer research.

“Cherry Hill would like to congratulate Mrs. Dye’s class on the success of their service-learning project,” Amy Jo Morris, Cherry Hill Primary counselor said. “We are so proud that our Little Lions have such big hearts!”

In addition, students were able to reflect on the success of their project and learn more about how their efforts were being used to help others by having a special visit with our own Mrs. Meriweather, a cancer survivor and 2017 participant in the Step Up for Stefanie’s Champions Walk/Run.
