What’s happening at Carnegie Library?

September was “Library Card Sign-up Month” across the nation. This year, Carnegie Library and Jeffersonville Library added more than 100 new users in September alone.

Each year, Carnegie Public Library promotes this month with special attention paid to kindergartners who are eligible for their first library card. Libraries today are about more than books: With educational resources of all kind, dynamic programming, and one-on-one reader’s advisory, having a library card is an excellent school supply and ticket to lifelong learning. Stop by today!

Coming up on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 4 p.m., community members and library patrons are invited to join library staff and trustees for the dedication of the Poppy L. Girton Memorial. This will take place by the fireplace on the second floor of the library.

On Thursday, Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Grace Methodist Church, join Carnegie Library in welcoming New York Times Bestselling author Margaret Peterson Haddix! During this visit, Ms. Haddix will discuss her books, take questions from attendees, and sign autographs. Books ‘N’ More from Wilmington will be selling Ms. Haddix’s books during this event.

For all: The holidays are right around the corner! All bakers and Pinterest makers are invited to participate in the Carnegie Public Library “Gingerbread House Contest.” Submit your creation Nov. 28 – Dec. 3 in one of four categories: Adult, Teen, Family, or Child. Houses will be on display at the library: Winners will be selected by popular vote, and announced on Dec. 12. We can’t wait to see what you create!

In Washington Court House: Join us for Story Time Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., is Preschool Story Time for children 3 – 5 years old and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., is Books & Blocks for children 1 – 3 years old. Siblings are welcome at either session. Each week features a new theme: Nov. 15 and 17 is “Thank You!” Also each Tuesday at 11 a.m., join us for “Books & Babies.” “Books & Babies” is a 15-minute session specifically created for our youngest patrons ages birth – 1 year old. Here, we look at board books, do finger plays, bounce on laps and explore. This early literacy time will introduce your baby to the library and the world of books!

Now through December, you can join the Carnegie Fantasy Football League! Kids and teens, grades 1-12, pick your NFL players each week before Thursday and celebrate the following Monday. Prizes will be awarded weekly! “Sewing 101” with Jodi for kids and tweens, grades 3-8. The next session takes place Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 4:30 p.m. Registration is required.

In Jeffersonville: Every Tuesday at 11 a.m., come listen to stories, play instruments, create crafts, and socialize with other little friends at Toddler Time. Each week features a new theme! Tuesday, Nov. 15 is “Loud & Quiet!” Also on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. all ages are invited to “Thanksgiving Cards & Coloring!” Create Thanksgiving Day cards with Linda and enjoy some holiday “color therapy” at the Jeffersonville Branch Library!
