Two new faces and one incumbent were victorious at Tuesday’s general election race for Washington C.H. City Council, according to unofficial results from the Fayette County Board of Elections.

Jim Chrisman, five-term incumbent, will be returning to the city council with 21.36 percent of the vote (1,461) for a sixth term.

“I am just happy to be re-elected,” said Chrisman. “I am excited to work with two new faces, Kendra and Trent, and I’m just pleased to get to continue serving. It’s always a learning experience, but I’m excited.”

Trent Dye, with 23.14 percent of the vote (1,583 votes), received the most votes in the city council race. Kendra Redd-Hernandez, who received 20.16 percent (1,379 votes), will also be joining the council in January.

“I am pleasantly surprised,” said Dye. “I am certainly very grateful to everyone who went out and supported me and I have to say this was a great campaign. I cannot speak enough about the other candidates and getting to know them was a great part of this campaign. I’m very happy for Kendra and it’s going to be nice to see what two new faces can do for Washington Court House. Hopefully we can make some positive changes now.”

“I am just so excited,” said Redd-Hernandez. “I just want to thank everyone that voted for me and supported me. I am excited for future change, and now the hard work begins!”

Incumbent Steven Jennings, who had been on council for 12 years, received 18.76 percent of the vote (1,283) and will not be returning for another term on council. Anthony Jay Yahn received 16.58 percent of the vote (1,134), according to unofficial results.

Current council chair Ben Roby did not seek re-election.
