A 33-year-old Washington C.H. man is being held in the Fayette County Jail on a first-degree felony aggravated robbery charge after he allegedly displayed a pocket knife at the local Walmart on Wednesday while attempting to steal several items.

At around 2:16 p.m. Wednesday, Washington C.H. Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at Walmart, 1397 Leesburg Ave., and were advised by employees that a man later identified as Jason A. Kidder had taken items and attempted to exit the store without paying. According to reports, when loss prevention employees attempted to stop the offender, he displayed a pocket knife toward them and ran outside, jumped a fence and went toward the apartment area.

One officer approached Wagner Court Apartments and another officer approached the Quail Run area in an attempt to find the suspect. On Wagner Way, one officer saw the man running eastbound near the trash dumpster, reports said. The officer pursued him in his cruiser into the field and tree line near Dice Drive.

Once the trees made it impossible to drive any further, the officer got out of the cruiser and ordered the suspect to get on his knees, according to reports. The suspect responded to commands and allegedly had an open pocket knife in his right hand.

The officer removed his weapon from its holster and ordered the man to drop the knife and place his hands on top of his head. The suspect complied and was taken into custody, police said. The knife was taken into evidence.

Kidder, 33, of 1524 Washington Ave., is being held in the jail on a $50,000 bond.
