A wanted registered sex offender from Fayette County whose whereabouts were unknown since June 14 is now in custody.

On June 14, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office deputies were making address verification checks on registered sex offenders and discovered that the home of Gerald E. Mustard, 68, of 519 Flint Drive in Washington C.H., was vacant, according to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth. Mustard was convicted of gross sexual imposition in July 1994 and was ordered by the court to register as a habitual sex offender, a classification within the registration law.

After it was reportedly found that he was not living in the residence which he was registered under, an arrest warrant for Mustard was filed in the Washington C.H. Municipal Court, charging him with failure to register a change of address.

Recently, he was arrested with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Office in Franklin County and was taken to the Franklin County Jail. On Saturday morning, Mustard was transported to the Fayette County Jail, where he is being held on a $10,000 bond.

“My office continually conducts unscheduled checks of registered sex offenders for the purpose of address compliance,” said Stanforth. “When these offenders provide a residential address at the time of their registration, deputies provide the follow-up measure of ensuring the accuracy of the address given. Those offenders found not in compliance are prosecuted according to law.”
