Jeremiah Delarwelle wins Belle Aire Spelling Bee

Belle Aire Intermediate School recently held its annual Spelling Bee. On Jan. 17, 26 spellers from grades three through five spelled their way through nine rounds of challenging words. The bee was held in the gymnasium with the entire student body and many parents in attendance.

Ultimately, fifth grader Jeremiah Delarwelle was declared the champion and third grader Will White was the runner up. The winning word was “austere.” Jeremiah recently completed an online test consisting of spelling and vocabulary. The results of that test will determine if he will advance to the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee in Athens, Ohio.

Judges for the event were Belle Aire teachers, Matt Melnek, Denise Johnson, and Jan Bihl. Bee coordinators were Beth Keller and Judy Steele.

The students and staff wish to congratulate all the contestants and best of luck to Jeremiah.
