Local wins ‘Vax-2-School’ scholarship

Ohio Vax-2-School is a public outreach campaign consisting of a series of statewide drawings to increase awareness of the availability and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines and provide incentives to younger Ohioans to get a COVID-19 vaccination.

Tuesday’s winners included a local student — Bryce Bennett, of Washington Court House, who won a $10,000 scholarship.

Anyone between the ages of 5 and 25 who had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine was able to enter online at OhioVax2School.com or 1-833-4-ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634). The final entry deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 1 for the grand prize drawings.

Each day from Nov. 29 through Friday, Dec. 3, 30 daily $10,000 scholarship winners will be announced on Twitter and Instagram at @ohiovax2school. Grand prize winners will be announced on Friday, Dec. 3 at approximately 7:29 p.m. during the Ohio Lottery broadcast. Tuesday’s winners, listed in alphabetical order, include:

Ohio Vax-2-School is awarding $2 million in prizes, including 150, $10,000 scholarships, and five, $100,000 grand prize scholarships. The Ohio Vax-2-School prize scholarships are awarded in Ohio 529 College Advantage plans, and can be used at the Ohio college, university, technical/trade school, or career program of the winner’s choice.

COVID-19 vaccines are widely available throughout the state. Many providers offer walk-in appointments, or Ohioans can schedule a vaccination appointment at gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov. Ohioans who want to learn more about the safety, efficacy, and side effects of COVID-19 vaccines should talk to their doctor, nurse, or pharmacist, or visit coronavirus.ohio.gov/vaccine to learn more.

November COVID-19 Cases, Hospitalizations

During the month of November, there have been 512 cases of COVID and 27 COVID-related hospitalizations reported. The age breakdown of cases and hospitalizations is as follows:

0-19: Cases: 116, Hospitalizations: 0

20-29: Cases: 82, Hospitalizations: 0

30-39: Cases: 63, Hospitalizations: 0

40-49: Cases: 84, Hospitalizations: 1

50-59: Cases: 75, Hospitalizations: 12

60-69: Cases: 37, Hospitalizations: 4

70-79: Cases: 32, Hospitalizations: 4

80+: Cases: 23, Hospitalizations: 6

Upcoming Vaccination Opportunities

Appointments are required for all FCPH vaccination clinics. Please bring your COVID Vaccination Record if you have already received at least one dose and your health insurance card if you are getting a flu shot. Masks are required.

FCPH OFFICE –

Pfizer/Comirnaty – Dec. 3, 10, 17 – 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Moderna – Dec. 6, 13 – 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) – Dec. 8, 15 – 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

All three COVID-19 vaccines will be available on Wednesday, Dec. 29 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

FAYETTE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS – All three COVID-19 vaccines, flu and high-dose flu will be available. The health department office will be closed on these dates so that staff can work offsite at the clinic.

Tuesday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m. – 7p.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 14, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 21, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
