The following fire reports were released by the Washington Fire Department (WFD):

Feb. 27 – 812 Delaware St.

Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting a burning plastic odor with visible smoke in the hot water heater closet. FD did not find any smoke or fire and noted no active evacuation at the time of arrival. Occupant stated water had been leaking out of the tank for several days now. FD investigation did not find any smoke and noted no detector activation at the time of making entry. FD investigation found water running out of the access panel along with scorch marks up the side of the tank. FD removed the electrical disconnect and shut off the breaker in the panel box. FD removed the access panel and found evidence of electrical arching inside the unit. FD was unable to shut-off the water supply to the tank and advised the occupant to contact maintenance to have the unit replaced and add a shut-off valve.

Feb. 26 – 1809 Columbus Ave.

Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting a commercial fire alarm, building 1 zone1. FD was notified via radio while en-route that staff advised of a false alarm. FD continued non-emergent and spoke with staff and the occupants of room 105. FD determined vaping inside the room set off the alarm. FD advised the occupants the facility was non-smoking and to step outside to smoke and / or vape.

Feb. 26 – 219 Gardner Ct.

Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting the activation of a carbon-monoxide alarm, requesting the apartment to be checked. FD found occupants from both units evacuated at the time of arrival. FD detected high levels of carbon-monoxide immediately entering the unit. FD exited and donned respiratory protection. FD re-entered and found carbon-monoxide throughout the unit with concentrations of 97ppm in the rear bedroom. FD also detected natural gas concentrations of 3.4% LEL during its’ initial check. FD checked the attic space where it detected low levels of carbon-monoxide, shut-off all gas appliances and ventilated the unit. FD also checked the adjoining unit where it detected carbon-monoxide levels of 20ppm, gas concentrations of 140ppm and allowed for natural ventilation with all appliances functioning. FD systematically ran each gas appliance in unit 219 individually and did not detect any problem or issue at the time of its’ re-check. FD repeated its’ re-check in unit 221 where it detected a maximum carbon-monoxide level of 8ppm with the furnace running. FD did detect a slight gas leak in the supply line to the furnace at / near the elbow before the shut-off valve. FD advised of the gas line repair be made and to have both exhaust vents checked.

Feb. 26 – 2733 SR 41

Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting smoke in the area of SR 41 NW and Prairie Road, unknown source. FD found light smoke in the area and noted the source was at / near the rear of the residence. FD investigation found an unattended smoldering pile of cardboard between the residence and detached garage. FD was unable to make contact with any person(s) on the property and extinguished the smoldering debris.

Feb. 26 – 8500 Bluegrass Blvd.

Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office requesting the tower for a mutual aid response with Jefferson Twp. FD. FD was notified via radio while en route by unit #591 to cancel.

Feb. 26 – 1225 Gregg St.

Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office requesting a first response for Fayette County EMS, lift assist. FD provided manpower. Patient was evaluated and refused further assessment, treatment or transport.

Feb. 26 – 1509 N. North St.

FD dispatched to a CO alarm activation. Upon investigation, the alarm sequence indicated it had reached the end of life. Advised occupant to replace.
