WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — On Friday morning, OSU Leadership Center consultant and trainer, Beth Flynn, spoke about generational differences in the workforce at the 11th-annual Groundhog Day Breakfast, held by the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce.

At around 7 a.m., guests of the Chamber gathered in the Mahan Building on the Fayette County Fairgrounds to enjoy breakfast, followed by an educational speech given by Flynn.

Event organizer and president of the Chamber, Kristy Bowers, started the morning off by introducing Flynn and welcoming guests to the breakfast meeting.

The Pledge of Allegiance was then led by vice chair, Kim Penwell, followed by a prayer given by Pastor Jon Truex of Heritage Church in Washington Court House.

The guests then enjoyed a breakfast meal catered by Rachel’s House, before Flynn, the featured guest speaker, began her speech on generational differences.

Flynn identified each generation by age group, explained the differences of work tactics, communications and values between the generations, followed by an inspirational message to work together as a whole.

According to Flynn, who has years of experience with leadership under her belt, a great leader in the workforce is one who communicates clearly their expectations and goals for employees.

“It is so important to talk generational differences in the workforce,” said Flynn. “In order to have a functioning and generationally diverse work environment, we have to be willing to break communication barriers and set our minds to collaborating with one another.”
