Gordon CDJR to provide free meals to those in need

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — On Monday, Nov. 20, Gordon CDJR is opening its doors to provide a free Thanksgiving meal to those who are in need.

Beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday, volunteers will be handing out free meals to go, catered by Kelly’s Meats & Deli, at Gordon CDJR in Washington Court House. With limited space and supplies, the meals will be first-come, first-serve, and the food will be provided in to-go boxes.

Bridget Reinberger-Ruehl, owner of Gordon CDJR, organized this event to take care of her neighbors in need during the holiday. The local business owner explained that the economy has made it difficult for people who don’t have much with interest rates “skyrocketing.” Her hope for this non-profit event is to help her community in any way she can.

“Owning a business in Fayette County means that Gordon CDJR has an obligation to serve the people in our community, and certainly the people that are in need like our veterans, the disabled, the widows, the unemployed,” said Ruehl. “Monday is our opportunity to serve anyone in need in our community a pre-Thanksgiving meal.”

She explained that her idea to begin the meal early on Monday was to make sure that people are fed prior to Thanksgiving day, when most places generously open their doors to the hungry.

Ruehl explained, “We wanted to kick off Thanksgiving week by serving others on Monday.”
