WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the Bureau of Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Drug Take Back initiative this Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

This event will take place in the northeast end of the Kroger parking lot, 548 Clinton Ave.

There will be sheriff’s office personnel, Kroger Pharmacy staff, Community Action Pathways to Recovery and Veterans Administration Suicide Prevention staff present at the event.

For more than a decade, the event has helped Americans easily rid their homes of unneeded medications—those that are old, unwanted, or expired—that too often become a gateway to addiction, according to a news release. DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs.

Take Back Day offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications at close to 5,000 local drop-off locations nationwide. In partnership with local law enforcement, Take Back Day has removed 8,650 tons of medication from circulation since its inception.
