Good Hope Lions learn about Ohio Lions Foundation

The Good Hope Lions learned about the Ohio Lions Foundation at a recent meeting.

Lion Jim Faust, of the Lynchburg Lions, was the guest speaker at the Oct. 19 meeting of the Good Hope Lions Club.

Faust has served as a trustee on the Ohio Lions Foundation Board from OH-6 for over 20 years. He related to the Good Hope Lions Club the many different causes that their donations make possible.

Victims of events such as floods, tornadoes and other disasters within Ohio can receive gift cards through a local Lions Club. A Lions Club in the affected area of the disaster contacts the Ohio Lions Foundation to request gift cards to distribute to victims. The OLF then purchases gift cards and sends them directly to the requesting club for distribution. It usually only takes a few days for the cards to be distributed once the request is made to the OLF.

In the most recent event, OLF sent over $35,000 of gift cards to the Lions Clubs in the East Palestine, Ohio area impacted by the disastrous train derailment. Faust advised that donations for the derailment victims came not only from Ohio, but many states as the derailment was national news.

OLF donations are also made to the visually impaired for iPads, GPS and Treker systems. Scholarships for visually impaired or blind students are also made possible from funds in a “Restricted Account” once a recommendation is made from the student’s college.

The Ohio Lions Foundation is just one of several 501 c (3) Lions foundations that serve residents of Ohio thanks to the generosity of Lions Clubs who raise money from various activities.

The next semi-annual Good Hope Lions Pancake & Sausage breakfast is Saturday, Nov. 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Wayne Township Hall in Good Hope.
