Miami Trace tennis beats Blue Lions

The Miami Trace Panthers tennis team visited Gardner Park Thursday, April 27 to take on the Washington Blue Lions.

It was the penultimate high school tennis match to be played at Gardner Park as Washington High School currently has tennis courts under construction at the high school which will be ready for play when the girls’ tennis season starts in August.

The final match scheduled for Gardner Park will be Senior Night against Greeneview Monday, May 1, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Miami Trace won the match, three courts to two.

Back on April 13, Washington won at Miami Trace, also by a 3-2 score.

Miami Trace improves to 5-2 in the Frontier Athletic Conference.

At first singles, Washington’s Blake Bagheri beat Jacob Pettit-Dinardo, 7-5, 6-1.

At second singles, Washington’s Mason Mullins defeated Carter Bainter, 7-5, 6-0.

Miami Trace’s Robbie Bennett won at third singles over Nathan Upthegrove, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Jacob Cline and Jonah Goddard of Miami Trace remained undefeated on the season at first doubles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jon Rader and Landon Miller.

At second doubles, Tucker Walton and Kaiden Howard beat Logan Miller and Nick Walker, 6-2, 6-2.

Miami Trace defeated Hillsboro on Tuesday, April 25, 5-0.

The last league match is scheduled for next Thursday, May 4 at home against Chillicothe at 4:30 p.m.

The Division II Sectional tennis tournament will be held Monday and Tuesday, May 8 and 9 at Portsmouth High School.

Miami Trace is Division I in tennis and will play in the Southwest District tournament Tuesday, May 9 at Centerville.
