Good Hope Lions present Helen Keller Sight Saver Award

Good Hope Lion Ron Clay was presented with the Helen Keller Sight Saver Award at the recent Good Hope Lions Club Annual Ladies Night Christmas Dinner held at the Crown Room.

The award is given through the Central Ohio Lions Bank (www.coleb.org) in recognition of those going above and beyond the challenge from Helen Keller at the 1925 Lions International Convention at Cedar Point.

Helen Keller challenged Lions: “Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lion, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves knights of the blind in this crusade against darkness?”

Clay has spent countless hours preparing the bags and labels for the annual bulk candy store fundraiser, usually starting in late spring to early summer.

All proceeds from the candy store are distributed back to the community in high school scholarships and other local non-profit organizations, as well as Ohio and International Lions’ related causes, including annual donations to the Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank.
