Fayette County Public Health released the following restaurant inspections:
January 4
Travel Center of America, 12403 St. Rt.35 NW, Standard and Critical Control Point Inspections. Violations/Comments: No towels or hand drying device in donut preparation room. All hand washing sinks must be provided with paper towels or a hand drying device to prevent contamination by hands. Soiled pop nozzles found at the soda station located in the store near the entrance. Food contact surfaces must be cleaned to sight and touch to prevent contamination. Date marking missing on pans of grits located in restaurant walk-in cooler and on diced tomatoes and sliced mushrooms located in food prep cooler across from grill. Perishable food held for more than 24 hours must be date marked and discarded within seven days for food safety. According to staff, these items were prepared today and were date marked during the inspection. Soil accumulation found in the following areas: store, storage room floor, donut room floor and under equipment, main sales floor shelves, coffee station cabinets. Back door in the restaurant has gaps in the seal that needs repairing. Unapproved household refrigerator installed in the service area. Stained ceiling tiles in the women’s restroom.
Pizza Hut-Popeye’s Chicken, 12403 US Rt. 35 NW, Standard and Critical Control Point Inspections. Violations/Comments: Raw egg mix for chicken batter station found at 46 degrees Fahrenheit. Perishable food in a cold holding state must be 41 degrees or below to limit growth of pathogens. The egg was discarded during the inspection and ice beneath pans was replaced. Personal items such as jackets found hanging on the utensil and food equipment racks. Personal items must be stored separately to prevent contamination. Gaps found in the back door seal that needs to be replaced. Soil accumulation found in the following areas: Floor, walls, baseboards, under and behind equipment, vents, outside food equipment, walk-in freezer floor.
Bob Evans Restaurant #288, 11477 Allen Rd., Standard and Critical Control Point Inspections. Violations/Comments: No date marking found on several food items inside the food prep coolers: Mac and cheese, spinach, sliced mushrooms, sliced tomatoes, diced tomatoes had two separate dates on the container, chopped salad. Perishable food held for more than 24 hours must be date marked and discarded within seven days for food safety. Soil accumulation found in the following areas: kitchen floor, baseboards, walls, mop sink, storage room floor, walls, and baseboards, inside reach-in and prep coolers, dining room tables. Ice accumulation in ice-cream bin faucets. Leaking at hand sink in service area. Soap dispenser found broken in women’s restroom. Missing covered receptacle in women’s restroom (first stall) for sanitary napkins.
January 5
Jeffersonville Market, 10 W. High St., Standard Inspection. Violations/Comments: Lemon found at 46 degrees Fahrenheit. Spinach dip found at 45 degrees Fahrenheit inside produce cooler located near the deli. Chopped/sliced produce must be 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below to limit the growth of pathogens. This unit may not be used to store perishable food until repaired, reinspected and deemed safe to use. Chopped beef found without a date and chopped tomatoes found past the discard date. Once perishable food has been held for 24 hours, they must be date marked and discarded within seven days for food safety. According to the staff, the beef was prepared today so it was date marked during the inspection. The tomatoes were discarded immediately. Gaps found in the back door which was one possible entry point for pests. These gaps must be filled or the door must be repaired/replaced for pest control. The blade for the can opener was found rusted along with the surrounding area. Food contact surfaces must be free of imperfections, smooth and easily cleanable. The blade must be replaced or the can opener must be discarded to prevent contamination. Test strips for chemical sanitizer unavailable. Soil accumulation found in the following areas: ceiling, vents, meat room cabinets, floor, baseboards, mop sink area, sales floor shelves, walk-in cooler, fan guards and shelves, walk-in freezer floor, back storage room area near dumpster. An accumulation of old equipment found in the back hallway. Equipment no longer in use must be removed from the premises. Stained ceiling tiles throughout the facility. Once the leaks are repaired, the tiles must be replaced. A gap found between the hand washing sink and wall in the meat room. Caulking is recommended.
January 6
Don and Marty’s Corner Pizza, 1 South Main St., Standard Inspection. Violations/Comments: Ice accumulation found in the united reach-in freezer and Frigidaire freezer. Soap needed at the hand sink located in the restroom. All hand sinks must be provided with soap to prevent contamination by hand. Soap was provided during the inspection. A new floor was installed in the kitchen. The box freezer was replaced with a new freezer.
Outside the Box Cafe, 10 S. Main St., Standard and Critical Control Point Inspection. Violations/Comments: No thermometer found inside basement reach-in refrigerator. All cooling units must be provided with thermometers. A thermometer was provided during the inspection. Kitchen hand sink was leaking. Equipment must be maintained in good repair.
January 9
Salty Broads Patio, 216 E. Court St., Standard Inspection. Violations/Comments: Waste receptacles need to be cleaned more frequently. All food temperatures were good. Overall cleanliness of the facility was satisfactory.
Werner’s Smokehouse BBQ, 11396 Allen Rd., Standard and Critical Control Point Inspections. Violations/Comments: Food/soil accumulation found in the upper area of the microwave and inside smokers. Food contact surfaces such as these units must be cleaned to sight and touch at a frequency necessary to prevent soil accumulation. Spatula found with jagged edges. Food contact surfaces must be smooth and easily cleanable to prevent contamination. The spatula was discarded during the inspection. Stained ceiling tiles found in the dining room area. Once the leak is repaired, the tiles must be replaced. Soil accumulation found in mop sink area and ceiling vents.
January 10
TFO, 221 State St., Standard Inspection. Violations/Comments: Soil accumulation found inside the coffee machine and the sandwich machine. Equipment must be cleaned at a frequency necessary to keep them clean. Coffee machine making noise. Equipment must be maintained in good repair. Soil accumulation found in the coffee machine. Current food license not displayed. Several food items found past the discard date. Perishable food must be date marked if held for more than 24 hours and discarded within seven days for food safety. These items were removed and discarded during the inspection. An accumulation of food and soil found in the bottom of the machine. Equipment must be cleaned as often as necessary to prevent soil accumulation.
Red Collar Pet Foods, 1 Doane Dr., Standard Inspection. Violations/Comments: All food temperatures were good. No food license displayed.
Taco Bell, 12356 US N.W., Standard and Critical Control Point Inspections. Violations/Comments: Soil accumulation found inside the condiment bins. Mop sink hose found below lip of mop sink. A backflow prevention device is needed or the hose must be cut to be positioned above the lip of the sink. The hose was repositioned above the sink during the inspection.
