Ah, summer. I love these long days sunning in the grass, on the beach, or in the car between tasks. Doesn’t summer seem to both inspire and quiet us? This mid-July heat, with the summer partially behind us and school year looming ahead, is both steamy and mesmerizing. These days are made for savoring: patient garden tending, lazy beach relaxing, front porch sitting, or getting lost in good book.
For me, turning over and over the words of your favorite poem, novel, or song lyric is pure pleasure. Reading can be comforting like fresh honey, sweet corn, or watermelon — words can refresh and nourish. Pick up a book and savor your summer, one page at a time.

This week at Carnegie Public Library: “Bonnie’s Books” is at Jeffersonville United Methodist Church on Tuesdays at 11 a.m., and “Hello, Friends!” is at the library in Washington Court House on Thursdays at 10:30 and 11 a.m. All storytimes are for children ages 5 and under and feature stories, songs, crafts and play.
Coming up on Thursday, July 29 at 11 a.m., children in grades pre-K – 6th grade are invited to the library’s annual “Party in the Park” at Eyman Park! Join us for fun, games, and entertainment!
Adults: Pick up supplies for July’s “Take & Make” craft — a miniature clothesline picture hanger!
Coming up soon on Wednesday, July 28 at 9 a.m., join the library and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Deer Creek State Park for a creeking experience. Test water quality through the presence of macroinvertebrates! Space is limited, please register at the library by Tuesday, July 27.
