Annual ‘Frozen Chozen Ride’ to kick off 2021

The first local ride of 2021 will be the annual VFW Riders Post 3762 “Frozen Chozen Ride,” weather permitting.

The ride is planned for Friday, Jan. 1 with kickstands up at noon. The route, according to Post 3762 president David Carson, will depend on the weather. The current plan is to travel to the Greenfield VFW and back although, if the weather is nice enough, participants may ride out to Rocky Fork.

”That’s always up for change depending on the weather,” said Carson. “With this ride, the route really depends on the weather. Sometimes when the guys that visit town come in and the weather’s too bad, they might ride around town for a little bit.”

Aside from the ride, another part of the event is a raffle for an AR-10 rifle. Raffle tickets are currently being sold but are limited to 100 tickets. According to Carson, most of the tickets have already been purchased with less than 20 remaining. They are $20 each and can be purchased from members of the VFW Riders.

The raffle for the rifle will take place at the end of the ride. Proceeds from the raffle will go toward the VFW Riders Veterans Relief Funds, according to the event Facebook page, “VFWR 3762 Frozen Chozen Ride.”

Although raffle tickets do cost money, the ride itself is free. Donations are always accepted to go toward the post’s activities to assist local veterans.

The purpose of the ride, according to Carson, is to bring riders together on the first day of the year and to have two wheels on the road.

“It just brings together the veterans groups and those who support us all the time,” said Carson. “It just lets everybody get together and ride that first day of the year.”
