Of the 132 schools registered in the state having gymnastic programs, 23 compete in the Central District.
One of those is Fayette County’s own Miami Trace High School. The local team participated in the post season tourney Saturday, Feb. 22.
The Panther tumblers achieved a 121.3 team score placing them 17th in this highly-competitive event.
Miami Trace freshman McKinley Kelley earned her own personal best mark on balance beam, improving her individual season score on the event to 7.725.
Washington Blue Lion freshman Abby Rose gained her own new high mark on floor exercise: 7.55.
With 153 gymnasts competing on the vault, the following local gymnasts placed in the top one-half of the field:
Devan Thomas placed 50th, (7.9); Lizzy Valentine, (Greeneview) 59th, (7.875); Grace Rolfe 64th, (7.825); Abby Rose, (Washington) 68th, (7.8).
148 gymnasts competed on uneven bars.
Devan Thomas again placed 50th with a 7.825 score.
Balance beam saw 153 competitors with Lizzy Valentine placing 60th with an 8.1 score. Kandice Mathews was 74th (7.85).
There were 153 athletes competing on floor exercise.
Lizzy Valentine was 49th (8.45) and Devan Thomas placed 57th (8.425).
Senior Devan Thomas earned a placing of 51st out of 109 in the All-Around competition to conclude her high school career.
