The Miami Trace Panthers varsity boys basketball team hosted former South Central Ohio League rivals Clinton-Massie Saturday night.
The Panthers rolled to a 69-50 victory over the Falcons.
Miami Trace had four players score in double figures for the first time this season, led by junior Logan Rodgers with 15 points. Rodgers just missed a double-double as he pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, including six offensive.
Junior Cameron Moore hit all four of his team’s three-point field goals and had a total of 14 points. He also had eight rebounds.
Senior Trevor Barker scored 12 points and freshman Andrew Guthrie had 10 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots.
For the Falcons, senior Austin Faucett and junior Logan Meyers led, each with nine points.
Senior Nate Baker scored eight points.
Sophomore Blake Ireland led Massie with five rebounds.
Miami Trace shot 45 percent from the floor, hitting 28 of 62 field goal attempts.
The Panthers had 42 rebounds (with 16 on the offensive glass) to 26 total for the Falcons.
Miami Trace had the advantage in second chance points with 28 to 10 for Clinton-Massie.
The Falcons made 20 of 57 field goals for 35 percent.
The Panthers scored first with a basket from senior Kyler Conn and after he was fouled, he sank a free throw for a 3-0 lead.
Miami Trace led the entire game.
The Panthers led 22-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Miami Trace led by as many as 17 points in the second quarter before heading to the locker room up 38-23.
The Panthers extended their lead to as many as 21 points in the third quarter.
After three complete, Miami Trace was in control, 55-36.
The fourth quarter was a draw, 14-14, to establish the final tally of 69-50.
“We were super-pleased with the way our kids started both halves,” Miami Trace head coach Rob Pittser said. “We played with a lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of effort. That was very pleasing to see for us.”
Pittser was glad to see four players hit double figures in the scoring column.
“Any time you can get four kids in double figures, it’s going to be awfully tough for the other team to come out on top,” Pittser said. “It’s good to have balanced scoring. It makes you difficult to guard and makes you harder to scout. (We have) a lot of things to build on tonight, for sure.”
Miami Trace (7-5) overall, will play at Lynchburg-Clay High School against the Mustangs Tuesday with the freshman game at 4:45 p.m.
