How important is prayer to you?

A recent poll showed 55 percent of Americans pray on a daily basis. Our country’s leaders have prayed from the very beginning.

In 1776, the first Continental Congress called for a day of fasting and prayer “that Lord God might bless the land.” Almost 100 years later, during the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln called for a day to be set aside for national prayer. Several presidents since then have called for the American people to pray.

In 1988, President Reagan signed a bill into law making the first Thursday in May the National Day Of Prayer.

Citizens of Ohio have been participating in the National Day Of Prayer since the early 1990s. Fayette County has had a National Day Of Prayer Task Force to plan events since 1996.

For many years, all 88 counties have had a church service on the National Day Of Prayer. Each county plans their own events.

This year’s national director is Rev. Ronnie Floyd. The theme is “Love One Another” from John 13:34.

The Fayette County Task Force Leader is Pat Brinkman. Pat welcomes people to attend the next planning session on March 12 at 7 p.m. It will be held at Court House Manor in the Paddock room. We welcome ideas and your prayers.
