A small fire on the roof of the Burger King in Washington C.H. closed the restaurant and a portion of Columbus Avenue for a short time Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 1 p.m., the Washington Fire Department responded to Burger King, 1666 Columbus Ave., and found smoke coming from a rooftop vent. Firefighters made contact with Burger King employees and learned that the fire was in the hood system that covered the char-broiler, according to reports.
Firefighters shut off electric to the building, and crews were sent to the roof to extinguish the fire using fire extinguishers. Interior fire crews removed the filters from the hood and applied water to extinguish the fire, reports said.
Fire damage was limited to the hood system.
The Washington Police Department also responded to the scene. The last fire unit cleared the scene at 2:23 p.m.
