Lions fall to Shawnee, 60-52

SPRINGFIELD — The Washington Blue Lions followed their Friday night win over Whiteoak by traveling to Springfield Shawnee to take on the Braves Saturday night, Jan. 5.

Shawnee won this non-conference game, 60-52.

The Braves led at the end of the first quarter, 15-9.

At the half, Shawnee held a 25-18 lead.

Washington made some gains in the third quarter, cutting into the Braves’ lead, but still trailing, 39-36 after three.

Shawnee won the fourth quarter by five points to take the 60-52 victory.

Senior Dillon Steward led the Blue Lions with 20 points, including four of the team’s five three-point field goals.

Senior Evan Upthegrove scored 15 points (including hitting one three-point basket) and senior Omar Porter scored nine.

Senior Richie Burns had six points and senior Blaise Tayese added two points.

Drew Mitch led the Braves with 23 points.

D.J. Hayden was also in double figures for Shawnee with 18 points.

The Braves made no three-point field goals.

Washington (6-3 overall) will host the Warriors of Adena High School Tuesday with the j-v game starting at 6 p.m.
