Washington C.H. native and former Ohio State Buckeye football player Garth Cox will be the featured speaker for the 13th-annual “Beat Michigan Tailgate Party” to be held Friday, Nov. 23 at the Mahan Building on the Fayette County Fairgrounds.

As a highly successful Blue Lion, Cox had a stellar WSHS career and earned a full scholarship to Ohio State. As a Buckeye, he played on four Big Ten championship teams as a tackle. During that time, the Buckeyes played in two Rose Bowls, the Orange Bowl and the Sugar Bowl. Cox played all four years under legendary Coach Woody Hayes and no doubt will have some great stories about the coach.

As a Blue Lion, Cox was a member of the undefeated 1974 team, which was named number one in Ohio. He was selected as All SCOL and All District in his junior and senior years. As a senior, Cox was also All Ohio and Prep All American. He gives credit to his junior and senior high coaches for playing huge roles in his development, specifically coaches Mo Pfeifer, Dale Lynch, John Creamer and Roger Mickle.

After graduating from OSU in 1977 and Capital University College of Law in 1981, Cox passed the bar and currently practices litigation law as a partner with his firm Harris, McClelland, Binau, and Cox.

The Buckeye Tailgate Party is jointly sponsored by the Jeffersonville and Washington C.H. Lions clubs. The proceeds are donated to food pantries throughout the county and are also used to support Lions sight-saving programs.

The party will run from 6-10 p.m. A tailgate supper will be served at 6:30. In addition to the featured speaker Garth Cox, the evening includes many silent and live auction items, which are ideal holiday gifts for the Buckeyes on your list.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets are available by calling Lion Jay Carey at 740-335-1107, John Rhoad at 740-335- 4588, or any member of the Washington Court House or Jeffersonville Lions Club.
