Shriners donate to FCMH Foundation

The Fayette County Memorial Hospital (FCMH) Foundation recently received a donation from the Aladdin Shriners Hospital Association for Children on behalf of the Washington Shrine Club.

The grant allowed the FCMH Foundation to purchase therapy equipment to assist student-athletes in the community.

According to Angie Curtis, leader of the physical therapy at FCMH, The Game Ready Accelerated Recovery System is a combination of cold and pneumatic compression that alleviates pain and controls swelling more efficiently after orthopedic injuries.

“Most large hospitals have an abundance of these devices on hand, however due to the expense of this system, it’s not something that small, non-profit hospitals have,” said Curtis. “Having this equipment means that student-athletes and others can receive the same up-to-date treatment programs they’d get at a larger facility without having to leave Fayette County.”

Curtis explained that the equipment also helps avoid the use of long-term narcotics.

“The Foundation greatly appreciates the support from the Aladdin and Washington Shrine clubs,” said Foundation Director Whitney Gentry.

For the past 70 years, Aladdin has been treating children locally in central Ohio through a very special organization called The Aladdin Shriners Hospital Association for Children (A.S.H.A.C.). This association was established to support Shriners Hospitals for Children throughout the world but to also care for children in central Ohio — all the while spreading the message of the benevolence of Shriners.

The FCMH Physical Therapy Department offers physical, occupational, speech and pediatric therapy in its 4,500 square foot facility. Staff have performed over 21,000 outpatient physical therapy procedures for the period of January through September of 2018. To inquire about the FCMH Physical Therapy Department, call 740-335-2862.

The FCMH Foundation is a 501(c)3, established to not only ensure the hospital continues to provide premier care to patients but that it has to resources continue to expand on that care and capitalize on new advancements in medical care technology. The Foundation uses donations to support the hospital in enhancing patient care services, providing state-of-the-art equipment, contributing to expansion and renovation projects, supporting the development of community programs that will improve the health and well-being of people in the communities served by FCMH, and advancing healthcare education for the community.
