CAMBRIDGE — The Washington C.H. 10u All-Stars had their State Little League tournament run come to an end Thursday, Aug. 2 with a 3-1 loss to Cambridge.

Washington C.H. began the tournament with a 17-4 loss to Cambridge on July 28.

They then defeated Wheelersburg, 5-3 on July 29 and Avon, 2-1 on July 31.

On Aug. 2, Cambridge scored three runs in the top of the third.

Washington C.H. scored its run in the bottom of the third.

Cooper Robertson started on the mound for Washington C.H.

He pitched three innings with four hits and three runs allowed. He walked two and struck out four.

Kaden Bryant pitched the next 1.2 innings, allowing one hit, walking three and striking out three.

Luke Armstrong pitched the final 1.1 innings for Washington C.H., with four strikeouts.

In the top of the third, Cambridge scored with a single, an error, a passed ball, another error and a double.

In the bottom of the third for Washington C.H., Austin Brown singled and stole second.

He advanced to third on Bryant’s ground out and scored on a single by Lucas King.

Washington C.H. placed sixth in the 11-team tournament.

Offensively for Washington C.H., Robertson had two hits, Armstrong had two hits, King, Aden Osborne and Cam Morton each had one hit and Javin Baker had the team’s only extra-base hit, a double.

“I felt that we were more focused,” Washington C.H. manager Steve Osborne said of the team’s second game against Cambridge. “We still didn’t hit the ball to our potential. I don’t know if it was their off-speed (pitches) again that cost us.

“It was pretty much a pitcher’s duel,” Osborne said. “Nobody was really doing anything special.

“We had a couple of errors in the third inning that cost us a couple of runs,” Osborne said. “We had two runners thrown out at home in the bottom of the fourth. We were trying to push the issue. We weren’t hitting the ball really well and we were trying to push some runs across. We were pretty aggressive and that’s on me. I told our base coaches to be aggressive and (Cambridge) made the plays when they needed to.

“That’s not to say we didn’t make the plays when we needed to, but they made more of them,” Osborne said. “You’ll have that some days.

“I told the kids prior to the game that, regardless of the outcome of the game, I wanted them to understand how proud I am of them,” Osborne said. “They’ve come really far in what they’ve done. They stayed together as a team. They enjoyed themselves and they had fun.

“I couldn’t ask for a better group of young boys,” Osborne said. “I think they represented themselves very well. The coaching staff has been very supportive with Josh (Morton), Aaron (Robertson) and Todd (Brown) and Steve (Haithcock).

“As a whole, the support that we were given by our parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, they were all there,” Osborne said. “(It was like that) every game. We’re playing Cambridge and they had fans lined up everywhere. But, our section was not to be denied being heard. We had people driving from Dayton to Cambridge for the game.

“It was phenomenal,” Osborne said. “It was a great experience for the kids. The support and the togetherness that we had, it’s hard to explain unless you were involved in it. I think everybody grew together. I think they made lasting memories and friendships.

“A lot of these boys will now be competing against each other in football,” Osborne said. “Now there’s a competition between Miami Trace and Washington Court House.

“But, there’s always going to be that bond of what they did as 10-year-olds in baseball,” Osborne said.
