Olivia Leisure, daughter of Jessica and Shaun Leisure, recently supported United Way of Fayette County’s Stuff the Bus campaign by raising some money of her own.
Leisure sold lemonade at a yard sale to raise money for the Stuff the Bus promotion the United Way holds each year for school supplies. She raised $22.50 and traveled to Walmart, purchased a book bag and personally chose the needed school supplies to fill it.
“I wanted to help the kids that didn’t have what they needed for school,” Leisure said when asked why she chose to donate.
Leisure will be starting the second grade this year at Miami Trace and will be in Ms. Steele’s class. She likes to swim at her “Pappy’s,” enjoys gymnastics and even likes to fish. She also said that she is excited to start the new school year.
“This little girl has a huge heart and she has seen the need first hand at school and wanted to do something to help,” Debbie Bryant, United Way of Fayette County president, said about Leisure’s generosity. “Her parents should be commended for raising such a great kid and teaching her this kind of compassion at such a young age.”
The United Way would like to remind the community that they will have buses full of supplies for Washington City Schools and Miami Trace at Walmart, Friday – Sunday.
When out shopping please remember those less fortunate and donate school supplies. Bryant said there is a great need in the county and all supplies will be going to Washington C.H. City Schools, Miami Trace, The Starting Gate and Head Start.
