Former Washington C.H. resident released on parole

A former Washington Court House resident was granted parole this week by the Ohio Parole Board.

Shannon K. Routte, 23, was released from the Ohio Reformatory for Women. Routte was ordered to serve a nine-month prison sentence in April by the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas, but was transferred Wednesday to a treatment center in Ross County.

She will be supervised by the Adult Parole Authority for one year.

Routte had a 2016 conviction in Fayette County for illegal use of supplemental nutrition or WIC services. According to court records, Routte sold $240 on a food stamps card in exchange for $120. When the person who bought the card tried to use it at a store, the card was reported to have just 17 cents on it. Routte, who lived on Mclean Street at the time, originally denied selling the card and said it had been stolen.

Routte later plead guilty to the fifth-degree felony charge and was sentenced in June of 2016 to two years of probation. She was ordered to complete a treatment program at Fayette Women’s Recovery in Washington C.H.

According to records, Routte violated the terms of that probation six months later in December of 2016 when she left Fayette Women’s Recovery and failed to return.

Two months later on Feb. 24, 2017, Routte was booked into the Fayette County Jail on charges of inducing panic, a first-degree misdemeanor, and possession of drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor, for a drug overdose.

Routte plead guilty to both charges in the Washington C.H. Municipal Court Feb. 27. For each charge Routte was fined $100 and a total of $372.80 in court costs. The fines and costs were suspended. A 60-day jail sentence was suspended.

The charges violated Routte’s probation with the Fayette County Adult Probation Department. In a March 22 hearing, Routte’s probation term was extended from two years to five years and she was ordered to complete either 180 days at the MonDay Program or another treatment facility, according to court records.

A month later, April 25, it was reported Routte failed the terms of that probation agreement by refusing to go to treatment at the MonDay program. Routte’s probation was revoked April 27 on the illegal use of supplemental nutrition or WIC services charge by the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas. She was instead ordered to serve nine months in prison and was sent to the Ohio Reformatory for Women the same day.

She was given 91 days of jail time credit for time already served on the illegal use of supplemental nutrition charge.

During a parole review this week, Routte was assessed and granted post-release control under the condition that she will complete treatment under supervision at the Terry Collins Reentry Center (TCRC), and any other terms and conditions set by the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and the Adult Parole Authority.
