Miller to attend Rio Grande

Recent Miami Trace graduate, Tara Miller, will be continuing her education and her athletic career at Rio Grande University.

Earlier this spring, Miller signed a letter of intent to attend Rio Grande where she will be a member of the women’s bowling team.

Miller will join teammate Macy Detty and Washington High School graduate Kalee Crowe as charter members of the new team at Rio Grande.

“I was looking at Wright State,” Miller said. “Then (Rio Grande head coach Brett Little) started coming to our matches. He started talking about Rio and bowling. I started looking at Rio and their programs. I switched my major. Now, I’m going into DMS instead of nursing.

“Rio Grande has a four-year degree in diagnostic medical stenography,” Miller said.

Miller was a four-year member of the Miami Trace girls bowling team.

“I would say the best we ever did the last four years was when we went to State (in 2015),” Miller said. “We worked together the right way. Everybody was helping each other out. We were comfortable with each other and we did really, really well that year.

“I would like to thank my mom,” Miller said. “From the beginning, she was taking me to matches and everything.

“I want to thank Kaleb (Taylor, Miami Trace girls bowling head coach) for helping me improve my game,” Miller said. “I want to thank Ron Amore Sr. (Miami Trace boys bowling coach). When Kaleb wasn’t able to be there, he filled in for him a lot.”

Miller already has a jump-start on her college education.

“The last two years, I’ve been taking college classes off campus,” Miller said. “This year I only had one class at Miami Trace. I could work in between college and my Miami Trace class. Some days, I won’t have a college class and I’ll just work all day. It’s been a lot easier doing that.

“My favorite class would probably be my British Literature class,” Miller said. “I’ve been able to get a lot of my general classes (at Southern State).”

What about competing at the collegiate level?

“I’m really excited for it,” Miller said. “Our practices are going to be in the morning, so, we’re going to have to wake up earlier, which doesn’t bother me, whatsoever.

“We’re going to get to travel (for matches) and I’m really looking forward to that,” Miller said. “We’ll go out of state. I just can’t wait for it.”
