Seventeen members met at the Commission on Aging for the bi-monthly meeting of the Fayette/Madison County Public Employee Retirees Inc. May 24.

President Sylvia Hildreth called the meeting to order and asked everyone to stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance. She introduced Terry Summers, the director of Summers Funeral Home. After Summers explained to the members how he became a funeral director using an entertaining story, he did a question and answer session. He answered questions concerning all forms of preparation for aging, funeral preparation and suggestions for intelligent choices for both. The presentation was very informative and enjoyed by all.

Hildreth thanked Summers for coming and called the meeting to order. Jeanne Immell gave the secretary’s report. Treasurer Connie Watson gave the treasurer’s report. The reports were accepted as given. Jim Essman didn’t have anything for the legislative report but Sylvia asked him if he could conduct July’s meeting in her absence. He agreed to do it.

Sylvia gave the president’s report. The main item on the list was a letter from PERI regarding donations. Donations are not appropriate to any club, organization, charity or other worthy cause. Only expenses such as rental donations for the use of a room for meetings, mailing expenses, chapter operating expenses and expenses for such things as the Annual District Meeting can be used from the treasury. Sylvia brought up the question about a gift card to give for our door prize at the Annual District Meeting. Everyone agreed to do it.

President Sylvia brought up the subject of the District Annual Meeting. She needed to know who would be going to the meeting so that the treasurer could make the reservations. The cost is $20 which will be reimbursed to the treasurer. Sylvia will not be able to attend but she encouraged everyone to go. The meeting will be at LaScala Restaurant on Dublin Granville Road.

The next meeting will be July 26, 2017. The meeting was adjourned.
