The Miami Trace Panthers boys track team was the only local team to win a relay at this past weekend’s Division II District track meet.
The quartet of Brady Wallace, Elijah Sauceda, Drake Litteral and Noah Wiseman set a new school record in winning the 4 x 200-meter relay in a time of 1:31.34. They were in the neighborhood of the District record of 1:30.85, set in 2012 by a team from Sheridan.
The Panthers were third at the District as a team with 70.25 points.
They were edged for second by Zane Trace with 72 points.
Waverly won the District with 90.25 points.
Hillsboro was fifth with 60 points.
A team that will be in the new Frontier Athletic Conference with Washington, Miami Trace, Hillsboro, McClain, and Chillicothe, Jackson, was seventh with 52 points.
McClain was eighth with 48 points and Washington was ninth with 43 points.
“Wes Seyfang placed second in the shot put,” Miami Trace head coach Brent Noes said. “This is the first time Wes has qualified to Regionals and he’s going in both throwing events. We’re excited for him.
“Drake Litteral is moving on in three events,” Noes said. “He is the District champion in the 100-meter dash. He set a new school record. He also set a new school record in the 200-meter dash, winning that event. That was also a new District record in the 200-meter dash.
“The 4 x 2, with Drake, Elijah Sauceda, Brady Wallace and Noah Wiseman, set a new school record in that event,” Noes said. “Elijah also qualified to the Regionals with a new P.R. in the 400-meter dash.
“Justin Reed placed fifth in the 300-hurdles, setting a new P.R. by over one second,” Noes said. “Jotham Lewis was right at his P.R. in the 800-meters. He also placed for us today.
“Simon DeBruin competed well in the 3200-meter run,” Noes said. “Trenton Crawford had a P.R. in the 1600. Jake Atwood ran well in the mile.
“Wyatt Cory placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles,” Noes said. “He had a good day in the 110 hurdles, too.
“Brad Mossbarger had a P.R. in the shot put, also,” Noes said.
“We just couldn’t be happier with our entire team effort today,” Noes said. “Our seniors did what they were supposed to do. Our underclassmen really stepped up and handled the pressure and the competition.”
“We have four going to the Regionals,” Washington head coach Colt Harrington said. “We have Liam Downing and Levi Davis in the pole vault; Caleb Rice won the 110-hurdles and Brandon Underwood in the 800.
“Our pole vaulters are both seniors,” Harrington said. “They’ve been working super-hard all year. I’m really excited to see those guys move on. They both went 12-foot the other day.
“Caleb Rice won a close race in the 110’s,” Harrington said. “Brandon Underwood ran a P.R. today in the 800-meters.
“I thought that we would have a chance to take three or four guys to the Regionals, so, I’m pretty excited,” Harrington said.
Litteral also won the District title in the 100-meters at 11.02. He won the 200-meter District title in a new District record time of 22.25. The previous record of 22.35 was set in 2005 by Chris Woodfork of Unioto.
Miami Trace’s Wes Seyfang will be going to the Regional in both throwing events.
He placed second in the discus throw at 131’ 8”.
Chucky Morris of Jackson won with a throw of 139’ 11”.
Haden Karshner of Logan Elm was third with 129’ 9” and Paul Link of Westfall was fourth with 129’ 6”.
Washington’s Trevor Hicks was seventh at 119’ 2”.
Miami Trace’s Brad Mossbarger was 16th at 106’ 4”.
Washington’s Adrian Butterbaugh placed 17th at 105’ 10”.
Seyfang was also second in the shot put with a throw of 44’ 3 1/4”.
Morris won at 45’ 4 1/2”.
Dion Burns of Hillsboro was third at 44’ 2 1/4” and Gabe Gambill of Portsmouth was fourth at 43’ 5”.
Butterbaugh was fifth at 42’ 5 1/4” and Hicks was 12th at 40’ 11”.
Mossbarger was 15th at 39’ 4”.
In the high jump, Miami Trace’s Wyatt Cory placed eight at 5’ 4”.
Jeremy Hayton of Hillsboro won the high jump at 6’ 4”.
Cade Marquez of Waverly was second at 6’ 0”, Breydan Tilley of Minford was third at 6’ 0” and Triton Davidson of Zane Trace was the fourth and final Regional qualifier at 5’ 8”.
In the pole vault, Washington’s Levi Davis was second at 12’ 0” and Liam Downing was third at 12’ 0”.
Mark Gallimore of Hillsboro was fourth at 12’ 0” and Austin Goolsby of Hillsboro won going away at 15’ 6”.
Miami Trace’s Wyatt Cory was fifth at 11’ 0”.
Goolsby won the long jump at 22’ 6”, tying a two-year old District record set by Draven Bass of Circleville.
Washington’s Dillon Steward was eighth at 19’ 11”.
Washington’s Miguel O’Flaherty was 10th at 19’ 3”.
Andrew Amore of Miami Trace was 16th at 17’ 5”.
Washington’s Caleb Rice won the District title in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.76.
Breydan Tilley of Minford was second at 15.80, Landree Gray of McClain was third at 16.03 and Randall Starling of Circleville was fourth at 16.44.
Trent Langley of Washington was fifth with a time of 16.51.
Cory was seventh in 17.56.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Justin Reed of Miami Trace was fifth in 43.12.
Blake McCoy of Jackson won in 40.41. Gray of McClain was second in 41.51; Tilley of Minford placed third in 41.56 and Chase McClay of Northwest was fourth in 43.07.
Brandon Arledge of Miami Trace was 14th in 27.39.
Tristan Pitzer of McClain was second in the 200-meter dash in 22.81. Gaheem Gilbert of Waverly placed third in 22.93 and Texas Willison of Logan Elm was fourth in 23.00.
Elijah Sauceda of Miami Trace was sixth in 23.52.
Caden Smith of Washington was 16th in 25.39.
Sauceda placed third in the 400-meter dash in 51.91 to advance to the Regionals.
Tanner Jennings of Waverly won in 51.32. Austin Harris of Zane Trace placed second in 51.46 and Trevor Newkirk of McClain was fourth in 53.03.
In the 800-meter run, Washington’s Brandon Underwood moves on to the Regionals. He placed third at the District meet in 2:01.80.
Cole Clever of Zane Trace won in 2:00.10. Teammate Darby Pillow was second in 2:00.77.
Jeremy Furhmann of Minford took the final Regional-qualifying place of fourth in 2:03.77.
Jotham Lewis of Miami Trace was eighth in 2:05.98.
Jake Atwood of Miami Trace was 12th in the 1600-meter run in 5:01.48. Teammate Trenton Crawford was 16th in 5:30.57.
Kieffer Mosmeier of Logan Elm won the District title in the 1600-meter run in 4:20.54.
Cole Clever of Zane Trace (4:25.76), Hunter Hoover of Waverly (4:34.07) and Aidan Judd of Waverly (4:37.73) are also going to the Regionals.
Miami Trace’s Simon DeBruin placed 10th in the 3200-meter run in 11:01.47.
Washington’s Connor Lane was 18th in 12:17.41.
Mosmeier won in 9:55.49. Hoover was second in 10:02.75, Tucker Markko of Unioto was third in 10:06.14 and Matthew Agosta of Logan Elm was fourth in 10:21.86.
In the 4 x 800-meter relay, Logan Elm won in 8:18.04.
Zane Trace was second in 8:29.84, Waverly was third in 8:39.11 and Minford was fourth in 8:44.08.
Miami Trace’s Blake Pittser, Jake Atwood, Simon DeBruin and Jotham Lewis placed fifth in 8:46.36.
Washington’s Kameron Morris, Chris Conger, Josh Trimmer and Brandon Underwood placed seventh in 9:16.17.
Waverly won the 4 x 100-meter relay in 44.33. Hillsboro was second in 44.46, followed by Unioto in 44.55 and McClain fourth in 44.92.
Those McClain runners were Tristan Pitzer, Landree Gray, Tyler Jackson and Jensen Knaff.
Washington’s Jacob Rice, Caleb Rice, Miguel O’Flaherty and Dillon Steward were ninth in 46.70 and Miami Trace’s 4 x 100-meter relay suffered a disqualification.
In the 4 x 200-meter relay, as mentioned above, Miami Trace won the District title in 1:31.34.
They will be joined from the Washington C.H. District at the Athens Regional by Jackson, second in 1:32.80, Zane Trace, third in 1:33.94 and Waverly, fourth in 1:34.06.
Washington’s O’Flaherty, Richie Burns, Caden Smith and Steward were ninth in 1:39.85.
McClain was 10th in 1:40.07.
In the 4 x 400-meter relay, Zane Trace won the District in 3;31.75.
Waverly was second in 3;31.84, Minford was third in 3:35.98 and Hillsboro was fourth in 3:37.86.
McClain was eighth in 3:42.48.
Miami Trace’s Wyatt Cory, Jake Atwood, Nick Elrich and Henry DeBruin placed 12th in 3:55.50.
The Division II Regional track meet at Athens High School begins Thursday with field events at 5 p.m. and track events at 6 p.m.
The Regional concludes Saturday with field events at 11:30 a.m and track events at 12:30 p.m.
