A Columbus resident was arraigned in court Monday for allegedly stealing more than $150,000 from a local pediatrician’s office.

Angela R. Johnson appeared in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas to be arraigned on two charges of aggravated theft, each a third degree felony.

According to the incident reports filed with the Washington Court House Police Department, Johnson allegedly worked as an office manager at ABC Pediatrics in Washington Court House for 10 years.

When Johnson reportedly took extended time off from work in 2015, a doctor began to pay the bills and noticed some discrepancies in the bookkeeping accounts.

The doctor contacted an accountant and allegedly discovered Johnson had been taking money as far back as 2012.

Copies of unauthorized checks and credit card transactions were released in the case file discovery. Checks from ABC Pediatrics for cash were allegedly signed by Johnson and made payable to Johnson and cashed at banks in Columbus.

In the theft report, the doctor wrote of initially discovering atypical charges to the account including purchases made at Target ($401.64), Meijer ($540.04) and Walgreens ($109.79). Johnson later allegedly told the doctor these purchases were for office supplies but was unable to provide receipts or documentation.

Additional transactions were reportedly discovered for purchases made at Kroger, Giant Eagle and Amazon.

According to the Amazon report, Johnson allegedly used the ABC Pediatrics address in billing for purchases of gold glitter shoes, a rabbit hutch, a “proud mom” t-shirt, collegiate jewelry, poker chips and poker game accessories, a bedding set, and other miscellaneous consumer items.

The doctor reported that these charges were extreme and the amount of unauthorized activity was $140,803.81 as of October 2015.

According to the Nov. 4 indictment handed down by a Fayette County grand jury, the theft is in excess of $150,000 but not more than $750,000.

Johnson’s next hearing is scheduled for June 19.
