MT tennis beats Blue Lions, 5-0

On a beautiful, sunny mid-April afternoon, the Miami Trace Panthers welcomed the Washington Blue Lions for a varsity tennis match in SCOL play.

Miami Trace won the match, five courts to zero.

At first singles, Juan Diego Navas defeated Kenny Upthegrove, 6-3, 6-0.

At second singles, Seth Leach beat Jordan Behm, 6-1, 6-1.

Rounding out singles play, Ely Schritzinger defeated Grant Kuhlwein at third singles, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

On the doubles courts, at first doubles, Matt Fender and Thomas Bondi beat Grant Mustain and Madalyn Wayne, 6-4, 6-2.

At second doubles, Johnathan Allen and Adam Ginn defeated Jack Luebbe and Max Schroeder, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

In a j-v doubles match, Miami Trace’s Todd Peterson and Nathan Taylor defeated Tony Kuenzli and Sam Schroeder, 8-3.

“I could not be more proud of the way my boys performed on the courts with determination, drive and grit,” Miami Trace head coach Mitch Augenstein said. “They played hard every point and every game was earned against a solid rival team.

“(Washington) bested us 3-2 and 3-2 both times last year,” Augenstein said. “So, we were looking to take the country rivalry back.”

Miami Trace has now won four matches in a row, the last three by a 5-0 score.

The Panthers will play in the River Valley tournament Saturday and be at home to take on SCOL opponent Chillicothe Monday at 4:30 p.m.

The Blue Lions are at Waverly Friday and at Clinton-Massie Monday.
