Macy Detty was crowned the 2017 Fayette County Lamb and Wool Queen during the 77th-annual Fayette County Shepherds Club Banquet Monday night in the Mahan Building at the fairgrounds.

Detty is a senior at Miami Trace High School where she is active in a number of different school activities, including the FFA. She is a second generation market lamb exhibitor at the county fair and her mother, Sissy Davis Detty, was also the 1988 county Lamb Queen.

Detty was selected by a panel of three judges and crowned by Chloe Lambert, the 2016 queen. Lambert told the group she had a great experience serving as their queen and would never forget the friends she had made during the past year serving as lamb queen.

Junior fair coordinator Amanda Ivey explained to the group her new role at the Fayette County Fair. She said the extension service would continue to be responsible for the educational component for 4-H, but the senior fair board would be responsible for all the junior fair activities during the county fair. Ivey said the goal is to make the junior fair activities even better than in the past.

Jesse Weade encouraged those present to consider leaving some provisions in their estate planning to support the future lamb shows/sales at the county fair. He explained how his aunt, Elaine Weade, 1968 Lamb Queen, had left money to be used each year to buy junior fair lambs at the Fayette County Fair.

Vice president Jeremy Etzler recognized all the junior fair sheep exhibitors and reported the Shepherds Club had spent approximately $4,000 in support of them during the past year.

President Travis Mick concluded the evening with the drawing of door prizes and auctioning off several items. The Willow Restaurant served the lamb dinner buffet.
