‘Santa for Seniors’ program needs donations

Mekia Rhoades and Jenny Vanslyke of Community Action Commission of Fayette County are coordinating “Santa for Seniors” again this year.

This program is designed to provide a Christmas gift and a basket for some of the community’s elderly home-bound citizens. Santa for Seniors would like to provide these citizens with a gift and a basket with items that they need and cannot always afford.

The volunteers are asking for monetary donations to help with providing these baskets and there is also a list of items being accepted on Facebook. The committee, made up of local people volunteering their time, will be collecting items and donations until Friday in order to have an idea of how many boxes they will be able to provide.

Commission on Aging and local home health agencies will be providing the committee with names and addresses of the citizens who are in need the most. On Tuesday, Dec. 20, the boxes will be delivered to those individuals.

The Santa for Seniors committee would appreciate any donations the public is able to provide and would like to remind everyone that the Community Action Commission Fayette County is a non-profit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.
